OSXLatitude was initially started on Leon’s blog where he had copied Leppy’s orginal forum post for installing OS X on a Dell Latitude D6x0 – the copy was modified for the D4x0 models.
The blogpost received huge amount of feedback and, from that, Leon, Mariusz and a couple of others decided to create a mailing list called “D4x0″, seeing that many of them had D420 or D430 models.
As the D4x0 group grew from 1 to 3 to 10… D4x0 moved over to a closed Google group. A “control group” was created: “The Elites” (lame ref. to Elites in Halo). Anyway, the Google group grew even faster from 10 to… 50… 100… 200… 300… It was fairly easy to see that a permanent webpage for documenting the many supported models was required and so a Wiki was created, initially hosted on a Mac Mini in Leon’s bedroon (sponsored by Zimondo). It was around the same time that EDP was created to make life easier for everyone. EDP was a turning point for everybody.
Less than 3 months after the Google group was started, the move to a fully fledged Forum was made. The forum was hosted by Zimondo for a long time – THANK YOU
OSXLatitude is not like the other big sites out there, nor do we see ourself as competitors! For a start, we have 0,5% of the userbase, secondly its all one big community. However we do have something that you wont find anywhere else: a team that cares and is polite. With that in mind, we’d like to welcome you to OSXLatitude.
